ROV Tagged Coral Monitoring Survey

Geo Oceans was engaged by a large oil and gas client to undertake a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) coral monitoring trial in Darwin Harbour for comparison against their existing diver-based methods.

The trial involved using the GO Visions™ ROV technology to relocate and photograph 75 tagged corals and four 50-metre fixed transects (50 image quadrats per transect) at each monitoring site. The trial was successful with the ROV demonstrating the ability to reliably and efficiently relocate and photograph tagged coral colonies in challenging underwater conditions. Geo Oceans was also able to demonstrate the geo-referenced image mosaicking capabilities of the GO Visions™ technology.
