FPSO Riser Turret Mooring J-Tube Inspection with Advanced NDT

Geo Oceans and Vertech were engaged to plan and execute a complex Mini ROV advanced NDT scope on FPSO riser turret mooring J-Tubes offshore Western Australia. The scope included cleaning (high pressure blasting) of 20 year old marine growth, CVI inspection (HD Video), ACFM inspection of welds and circumferential C-scan corrosion mapping of the J-Tubes, all within the splash zone. Geo Oceans and Vertech planned and managed several industry leading subcontractors to execute the scope with subject matter experts including Geo Oceans for Mini ROV operations, TSC Inspection Services for subsea ACFM and Sonomatic for subsea corrosion mapping.

Bespoke ACFM actuator and ROV attachment systems were engineered, tested and demonstrated in Geo Oceans’ R&D test tank facility and in a 3D computer model prior to mobilisation offshore. The project was executed while operating in hazardous areas with EX rated ROV control container and HP water blaster and an innovative tether management system to manage deployment of some heavy auxiliary tooling components on the RTM deck.

This project represents an industry first for Mini ROV deployed ACFM and corrosion mapping in the splash zone.
