INPEX Ichthys LNG Development Project Seagrass Monitoring Program

Geo Oceans monitored seagrass communities in Darwin Harbour for potential impacts associated with INPEX Ichthys Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Development project dredging operations in Darwin, Northern Territory.

Geo Oceans established a baseline and then repeated quarterly seagrass mapping surveys using the GO Visions™ technology. Each survey consisted of over 200 repeatable towed camera transects, with semi-quantitative habitat classification undertaken in the field in real-time. The habitat data were used to produce benthic habitat maps quantifying the distribution and density of the seagrass communities for comparison over time.
